Russian authorities report a 200% increase in video card sales linked to illegal cryptocurrency mining operations. Financial losses from these activities in 2025 are projected to surpass the 10 billion ruble damage recorded in 2024, according to local press sources.

Graphics processing units (GPUs) are in high demand for mining rigs hidden in basements, garages, and NEAR power substations to steal electricity. Both 'black miners' using stolen energy and 'gray miners' exploiting subsidized power contribute to the surge, with GPU sales nearly tripling in H1 2025.

M.Video-Eldorado, Russia's leading electronics retailer, recorded a 233% growth in GPU revenues and unit sales. While the company attributes part of this demand to gaming and AI applications, IT specialists confirm miners are significant contributors to the spike.
